Simulating the Student View
Simulating the Student View
You can “switch” roles to see what your course looks like from the student point of view. You won’t be able to take quizzes or surveys, but you will be able to view content, post discussions messages (from yourself), participate in chats (as yourself), etc.
Note: You can view quizzes in your default role using the Preview function in Quizzes. To actually take quizzes or surveys, however, you will need to set up a test student ID for yourself. (To get a guest ID, contact your departmental ICON administrator or send email to icon-support@uiowa.edu.)
To “switch” to the student role:
- Click Course Home in the NavBar.
- Select Student from the Role Switch droplist.
Note: The Student view is the only view likely to prove useful, although the droplist also includes Guest Student and Preview Role. A Guest Student is a participant who does not have a HawkID. A Guest Student has the same rights as Students, except Guest Students can also change their passwords. Preview Users can view only content-type materials (Content files, News, Articles); they cannot access interactive course areas.
Don’t forget to switch back to your default role when you are finished.
