Why can't I download assignment files from the Dropbox?

Common reasons:

  • Your web browser is not supported by ICON. Try one of the ICON-supported browsers listed here.
  • Your file has downloaded to your workstation and must be opened from within a particular software program, such as Microsoft Word. Do a Search for the file on your workstation; then start up the relevant software and open the file from within it.
  • Microsoft Office is not installed on your machine. You can buy a copy for around $10 at the IMU bookstore.
  • The file is too big for a slow internet connection (e.g., dial-up modem). Try another computer. The ITC's on campus have fast connection.

Why can't I submit my assignment file to the Dropbox?

The error message The file you have attempted to upload was not found. You will be redirected to your home page. occurs when the filename contains certain illegal characters:

” * / : < > ? \ | ’

Try renaming your file.

If you have a slow connection speed, your file may be too large to upload. Try submitting your assignment on a different computer.

I submitted my assignment to the Dropbox, but the instructor can't download it. Why not?

If your filename has a blank space at the beginning or includes one or more of the following characters, you may be able to upload it but your instructor will not be able to download it:

“ ” * / : ; < > ? \ | ‘ ’ & #

If this is the case, try renaming your file. If your filename did not contain an illegal character, you may wish to point your instructor to the online Instructor FAQ for other possible causes for file download failure.
