Where do I look for my ICON email messages?

All official University mail, including ICON mail, is addressed to your alias (e.g., abbie-hoffman@uiowa.edu) and routed by default to your University email account. You can change your routing address to receive University mail in a different email account. To do this, log in to ISIS at http://isis.uiowa.edu and click My UIowa and then Email.

Does ICON keep a record of the email messages I send?

No. ICON email is outgoing only. In order to have a record of the messages you send, you must send copies to yourself. Address the message to yourself and place your recipients’ names in the cc: or bcc: (blind carbon copy) field.

Why should I set up an ICON email signature?

ICON email does not automatically identify you as the sender unless you have set up an Email signature. If you have not set up an email signature and you forget to sign a message, the recipient may not know who sent it. To set up an Email signature:

  1. Click MyHome in the upper-left NavBar.
  2. Click My Preferences in the list at left.
  3. Click the Email tab.
  4. Type your HawkID in the Email Signature Box and click Save.

Note: ICON doesn't recognize a hyphen in email addresses, which is normally not a problem. However, if you wish to change something in your Settings area (such as adding an email signature or having a copy of each message sent to you), you will get a warning that your 'Reply-to' address is not valid. To work around this, replace your firstname-lastname@uiowa.edu with your email routing address (e.g., jdoe@iowa.uiowa.edu). You can find your email routing address by looking up your name at http://web.its.uiowa.edu/peoplesearch/home.page.
