What is Possible with ICON’s Pager Tool?

  • Exchange instant messages (faster than email) with students and colleagues who are currently logged in to ICON. Recipients who are not online in can access messages later, after they log in.
  • See who is online and who is offline.
  • Page any ICON users, regardless what ICON course they are in.
  • Page multiple individuals simultaneously (e.g., to invite them to an impromptu Chat session).
  • Create a Personal Contact List and select recipients from this list rather than typing in the HawkID.
  • View a history of your Pager conversations with individual users.
  • Change your online status to “offline” so you won’t be interrupted by pages when working (students don’t have this capability).

Using the Pager with a Screen Reader

Persons using screen readers may want to turn Pager notification off, since the refresh rate for the Pager may cause some screen readers to start over at the beginning of the page.
